Physics 387N: Relativity Theory II: Course News
Monday, April 21, 3:30 pm
Here is the preliminary schedule for in-class presentations of
term projects:
- Thursday, April 30: Group 4, Group 5
- Tuesday, May 5: Group 1, Group 2

Two typos in the Project 3 handout
have been corrected:
a) Missing $dr^2$ in equation (2)
b) Incorrect definition of $t^n$ in the
text following equation (37)
Friday, March 13, 3:30 am
The
Software Notes (on-line resources) for
Project 3
are now essentially complete.
Thursday, March 12, 6:00 pm
Modulo correction of typos etc., the on-line handout
for Project 3 is now complete.
I'm still working on assembling
the on-line resources, and will let you know when they are in
place.
Wednesday, March 11, 10:00 pm
A preliminary version of the handout for
Project 3 is now available. The project
specifcation is complete, but some supplementary material on
differencing techniques needs to be added. Also, I am still
preparing the on-line resources which are referred to in the
handout.

Note that the parameter-setting script I mentioned in class on March
3rd is called Setpar
, with usage
% Setpar
usage: Setpar file parameter value
Sets 'parameter' in 'file' to 'value'. Assumes 'file' contains
a string of one of the following forms:
parameter := old value
parameter = old value
'file' backed up to 'file.O'
I have another script called setpar
which does the same sort of task on certain fixed-format parameter
files, but which doesn't work on RNPL
-style
parameter files. I apologize for any confusion this has
caused.
Tuesday, March 3, 3:00 pm
Project 2 is now due Tuesday, March 10, 12:30 pm
Tuesday, March 3, 10:30 am
Group home directories have been moved to
/d/feynman/usr/people
This should ease the disk crunch for the time being, and you can
also still use the directories on
/d/newton/usr3/people
which I set up last evening.
Monday, March 2, 10:20 pm
It has come to my attention that you're having problams
with disk space on einstein:/usr2. I have created directories
/d/newton/usr3/people/p387g[12345]
which you can use.
Wednesday, February 18, 10:45 pm
The complete handout for
Project 2 is now available.
Tuesday, February 17, 11:45 am
Each group now has a Web home page, physically located at
~p387g[12345]/public_html/index.html
and having a Web address
http://wwwrel.ph.utexas.edu/~p387g[12345]
(where [12345] means one of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5).
These pages are accessible via the
Group Pages link on the course home page.
Use your group's public_html directory for material which
is to be published on the Web, starting with Project 2. Note that
in order to make such material world-readable, the system administrator
has restored the permissions on all group home directories
to make them world readable. For groups which had previously hidden
their home directories, all sub-directories have been so hidden.
Please do not change the permissions on your group home directory.
Tuesday, February 17, 11:45 am
The handout for the first part of
Project 2 is now available.

the Center for Relativity machines. Initial passwords will
be divulged in class.
